October 28.  Just a reminder that Day Light Savings Time ends this coming Sunday (November 4th) morning at 2 am.  Don't forget to turn your clock back by 1 hour (so 2 am becomes 1 am), and enjoy your extra hour of sleep/practice time.

October 25.  DYNAMO Club announces the formation of a new, "Novice Self-Defense, Wrestling and Judo" Class for boys and girls, age 8-13.  To learn more please click here
 
 
October 22.  Dynamo Club is hosting the 2007 Dynamo Club MMA Championship on November 17.  This is a US Judo Association sanctioned event (point earning), and we encouarge all to attend.  For information please click here for flyer and registration forms.  Please let sensei Boris know of your participation.
 
 
October 22.  Beverly Hills High School's wrestling team is starting another season, and tryouts are ongoing from today to early November.  All interested parties should contact coach Villegas/coach Mead immediately, and start showing up at the workout.  More information is available here (Normans Wrestling website).

October 16.  Dynamo Club resumes practice today after a successful weekend in Claremont and a good rest.  In the next few days sensei Boris will make annoucements regarding the Dec. 1 and 2nd US Judo Winter National Championships, to decide who will participate, at what ranking, and will begin training for this event.  This will be a national open tournament, meaning competitors from all over US and worldwide will participate (over 600 competitors expected).  This national competition will be a great way for Dynamo Club members to get tournaments (for higher Judo ranking) and real hands-on competition experiences.  We encourage all to participate or come to watch/support. 
 
 
October 15.  Our biggest gratitude goes to Sensei Gary (Goltz) and everyone at the Gary Goltz Judo Club (http://www.goltzjudo.com/), for putting together a very competitive and hospitable tournament (Dr. Z's Memorial Tournament).  We were very impressed with Sensei Gary leaderships and easy going personality, as well as the Judo skills and class of everyone at Goltz Club.  We look forward future learning and partnerships with Sensei Gary and everyone there.

October 14.  We welcome Sam Cole, to our practice today.  Sam is a seventeen-year-old, first-degree black belt in Shaolin Kendo Kung-fu. Today, we demonstrated how each of the different styles of martial arts share similar fundamental concepts, especially the relationship between SAMBO, combat SAMBO, judo, and Shaolin Kendo.  We look forward to Sam's future visit and cooperation.

October 14.  The Beverly Hills High School Mixed Martial Arts Club held its first official practice and meeting.  A special thanks to Steven Swartz for bringing a picnic lunch (great champagne grapes) & drinks to the practice. 
 
 
 
October 13.  Congratulations to all Dynamo team members who participated in the Dr. Z Memorial Judo Tournament (in Claremont).  Amid strong competitions (from California, Arizona, Nevada, Mexico and even the east coast), every Dynamo team members placed 1st to 5th in every group competed, and we represented our club with class and skills.  
 
The results qualified Dynamo team to compete in the 2007 US Judo Association Winter National Championship in Ontario, CA on Dec. 1 and 2.  There will be more than 600 competitiors for that tournament, and Dynamo team will be training hard in the next 1 1/2 month to get ready.

October 11.  Martial Arts is finally getting the recognition of the Olympic sports body.  During Summer Olympic 2008 in Beijing, there will be a Olympic Kung-fu (Wushu) competition (but not Olympic medals).  With more than 100 affiliated associations worldwide, China is working to incorporate kungfu into future Olympics.  http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/olympics/2007-10/04/content_6152608.htm
 
 
October 11.  During the upcoming competition (this Saturday) Sensei Brezhnev and other US Judo Association masters will be ranking Dynamo team members.  Go to http://www.usja-judo.org/Docs2004/National%20Judo%20Rank%20System.pdf to understand USJA's ranking.  Sensei Brezhnev expects all team members competing will get a very high, favorable ranking.

Please remember to trim your nails (hands and feet), no milk, sleep early and stay hydrated the day/night before the matches, and on Saturday bring your gi, water, sandals, warm up cloth or gears.   
 
 
October 10.  Dynamo Club has been elected as one of US Judo Association Charter Clubs.  This will help
Dynamo Club competes in competitions, and help our members obtain appropriate rankings in Judo.  Feel free to go to www.usja-judo.org to learn more about US Judo Association.

October 4, We were very privileged to have Oleg Taktarov, movie star and former fighting champion (UFC and
other associations), at the practice today and helped members with their conditioning, ankle/knee bars, and
various floor moves (videos posted on www.dynamoclub.blip.tv).  We look forward to Oleg's future visit and instructions. 
 
 
 
October 3.  Our friends and affiliates in NYC, Victor Tartarkin and Oleg Taktarov, served as advisors to the
new action movie, "We Own The Night", starring Mark Wahlburg and Joaquin Phoenix.  They are being honored
October 8 at the film's private screening, and the movie is premiering October 12th nationwide.

October 2.  Congratulations to........
 
Coach Boris Brezhnev for being elected the newest executive director of the American Amateur SAMBO
     Federation (AASF).  Coach Brezhnev will focus on matters relating to SAMBO veterans and masters, and
     the annual World Championships of SAMBO Masters and Law Enforcement Officers. 
 
Dynamo member, Justin Brezhnev and Klar Kuo, for founding the Beverly Hills High School Mixed
     Martial Art Club.  In the club's first week 20+ new members have signed up.  We look forward to practicing
     with them on weekends.
 
Our friend and affiliate, Sergey Novikov, for becoming the president of FIAU (Federation International
     Amateur Unifight).  Sergey is a national and Olympic hero in Judo for Russia.  Learn more about Sergey
 
And our friend and NYC affiliate, Victor Tartarkin and Oleg Taktarov, for staring in the upcoming movie,
     "Righteus Kill", with Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro.  Victor Tartarkin is a peer of coach Brezhev on the

October 2.  A few important announcements:
 
1.  In order to accommodate everyone's schedules better, we have changed weekday practice time,
     from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, to 4:00 - 6:00 pm.  Weekend practice is still from 10:00 am - noon.   We will
     try to practice most of the days (if coach Brezhnev's schedules permit).  We will continue to have one day
     off during the middle of the week (or Friday).    
 
2.  Dynamo club asks all current members to submit application form, photos and membership fees to
     coach Brezhnev.  If you have not done so, please do so immediate or you may face higher
     membership dues.
 
3.  In order for members to work/obtain black belts (in Judo) and Masters ranking (in SAMBO),
     you must register and be a member of Judo/SAMBO organization(s).  You also need to be
     a member to compete/get ranking.  Please let coach Brezhev know about your intention soon.
 
 
October 2.  Competitions this month.  Dynamo Club is preparing for upcoming Judo competitions.  Oct. 13 at Claremont, CA.  This will help members qualify for the Judo US Winter Nationals on Dec. 1 and 2 also at Claremont.  To compete please notify coach Brezhnev for registration.
 
 
October 2.  Best wishes to all our friends at the SAMBO World Cup competitions in Moscow October 3-6.  The event is organized by our friend and respected SAMBO leader/competitor, General Aslambek Aslakhanov and chaired by Moscow mayor Y.Luzhkov.  It is an important event for SAMBO and especially for SAMBO's expansion in Asia.  Dynamo Club hopes to take part in SAMBO's Asia/China expansion.  Learn more about this event and SAMBO in Asia at www.sambo-asia.org
 
 
October 2.  In order for Dynamo Club to become a better, stronger club for members, we will be analyzing our needs and resources this month, and decide how to grow the club beyond our current size.  We hope to have a plan in place within one month.  We will also consider filing for incorporation and federal non-profit status so that we can raise funds for future growth.
